Got a whole load out of the kiln yesterday, and forgot to take pictures for you!  Students took their work home and it didn’t cross my mind until last night when I was thinking about the blog.  Wouldn’t you know.  So here’s a pic of the pieces that haven’t been picked up yet …

There was a whole kiln load … some of which was mine of course.

And, sometimes a kiln load just comes out perfect.  It’s like the kiln gods want to make up for past and future screw ups and every single thing in the kiln is just grand.  These bowls were part of that load (don’t pay any attention to the unfinished tax stuff underneath.  There’s no way for that to be perfect!).  The glaze had the perfect melt and is quite luscious.

The bottom bowl is about 11-1/2 inches wide and 4 inches deep.  The glaze just makes me want to hold it.  I may even take the darn thing to bed!  Even the foot is fabulous (how’s that for shameless self promotion, eh?).  Don’t know if I’ll be able to part with it for a while …  Maybe the gods are trying to keep my mind off other things.  How can you think about politics or anything else when you’re gazing into the curve of a porcelain bowl?  Speaking of porcelain.  This is just cone 6, the new 906 from Pottery Supply House (in case you’re wondering) and I love it.  It’s just so WHITE!  Works great with my white glaze.  What more could I ask for?

Now onto the next project.  It’s a tea set done with the PSH black clay.  It’s going to be part of my ‘Ancient’ series.  Hope to get another three or four done and some more mugs (as they have all disappeared).  But, it’s bloody cold here in the basement and a bit warm outside to put on a fire.  Can you believe this weather?  If I put on a good fire down here we will roast upstairs.  You can tell I’m a Canadian, eh?  Always something to whine about with weather!

Have to tell you though, I am so grateful to have pottery and pups to keep me in a decent frame of mind.  It’s very easy to get caught in the drama of everyday stuff.  Dogs and clay bring me back to centre (especially the clay, of course).  Guess I’ll just light a fire and open the windows upstairs …

Teddy watching me work.

Zoey sleeping through it all!

Hope you’re having a great day!
